TL;DR
- Nigerian cross-border app Evolution (formerly Cryptonia) has joined Nuvion, an AI-powered global banking platform.
- Evolution grew from processing $500,000 in late 2025 to over $10 million in transactions by April 2026 while securing a US FinCEN MSB registration.
- Nuvion brings enterprise infrastructure, including Circle, Visa Direct, and Ripple RLUSD partnerships, allowing Evolution to plug into global B2B settlement rails.
- The deal reflects a broader shift across Africa where consumer fintech apps plug into global payment infrastructure rather than building proprietary rails.
Nigerian cross-border payments app Evolution, formerly known as Cryptonia, says it has joined Nuvion, an AI-powered global banking platform. The move marks a significant advancement for both entities as they aim to streamline multi-currency accounts, international wire transfers, and compliant stablecoin infrastructure for individuals, freelancers, and businesses worldwide.
The update comes as cross-border payment infrastructure across the continent shifts. Digital asset platforms are increasingly partnering with traditional and AI-native banking stacks.
The Deal: Evolution Joins Nuvion
According to an official statement from Evolution founder, Oluwatimilehin Oluwasanmi (often known as Timmy), the integration reflects both teams’ shared commitment to dismantling geographical financial barriers.
“When we started Evolution, we had a simple vision: make moving money across borders easier and more accessible for individuals and businesses, enabling them to go global from wherever they were,” Timmy shared.
“What started as a platform for exchanging digital assets grew into something much bigger. We built infrastructure that enabled people and businesses to hold multiple currencies, receive international payments, move money across borders, and access financial tools that were previously out of reach,” he continued
“But more importantly, we saw just how much work remains to be done. As we continued building, one thing became increasingly clear: solving cross-border banking challenges at scale requires more than a great product. It requires strong financial infrastructure, regulatory reach, and the ability to serve businesses wherever they operate. That’s what makes this next chapter with Nuvion particularly exciting.”
The specific financial terms of the deal were not publicly disclosed. However, the core objective is clear: merging Evolution’s experience in building financial access in emerging markets with Nuvion’s enterprise-grade, AI-driven global banking stack.
Who Are Evolution and Nuvion?
Evolution started as Cryptonia, an app for Nigerians earning in stablecoins who wanted to convert to naira. The rebrand widened it into a platform where users can receive payments in USD and euros, hold stablecoins, make cross-border payments, and withdraw to a naira account.
The founder claimed the rebrand was meant to stop the company from being confined to crypto or stablecoins alone. Evolution is registered as a US Money Services Business and regulated by FinCEN.
As of November 2025, the company reported processing $500,000 across more than 6,000 transactions. By April 2026, the company said it had processed over $10 million in life transactions.
Nuvion is a licensed, AI-native global banking platform designed for tech-forward businesses, startups, creators, and marketplaces. Nuvion has had a busy 2026. It joined Circle Payments Network in June for stablecoin settlement.
It also announced a collaboration with Visa Direct for global payouts. In July, it integrated Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin and also supported Flutterwave’s January launch of stablecoin balances.
How the partnership could work
Neither company has explained the mechanics of this alliance. However, the two businesses look complementary.
Evolution is consumer-facing, with users in Nigeria and experience converting between naira and dollars. Nuvion is infrastructure, with payout networks, wallets, and settlement rails.
Nuvion’s documentation says platforms can use its API to issue accounts, send funds to any country, and enable stablecoin transactions without building bank and liquidity relationships themselves.
If Evolution’s customers plug into those rails, Nigerian freelancers and small businesses could reach a wider payment network.
Why This Matters
The deal also fits a wider pattern. African digital asset companies are increasingly plugging into global payment infrastructure instead of building everything themselves.
Onafriq recently partnered with Visa to launch a cross-border stablecoin-powered payment pilot in DRC. Onedosh partnered with Stripe to provide users with instant USD wallet funding. Busha and YellowCard have separately partnered with Mastercard to improve their services across three continents.
As fintech matures, standalone consumer crypto apps are increasingly becoming integrated infrastructure players. Evolution’s move to join Nuvion underscores that the future of global banking lies in hybrid systems, one where stablecoins and traditional fiat live within a single, compliant interface.
